Anne Marie Segal counsels individuals and companies in New York, Connecticut and beyond, bringing her legal expertise to the areas of business law, contracts, non-profit representation and trademarks. Her clients have spanned a wide range of founders, executives, creative professionals and business owners. For a list of representative clients, please click here.
Ms. Segal’s legal career has spanned a seven year stint in-house at a hedge and private equity fund, where she oversaw more work handled by more outside counsel (amazing, good, bad and ugly) than she can care to remember and toiled as a jack-of-all-trades on legal matters large and small.
Prior to that, Ms. Segal cut her teeth for over four years in the corporate department of the international law firm of White & Case LLP, with a short rotation in the firm’s tax group. During law school, she also clerked for an arbitrator/retired judge and interned at the MOMA and a Mexican law firm.
This combination of experiences has lead her to a deep appreciation of the qualities that make a lawyer useful to clients – not just smart, because frankly who cares what a lawyer knows if it’s not useful?
What’s useful? Offering perspective. Listening. Not judging. Tailoring advice. Staying on point. Being prompt, positive, empathic, accessible and consistent.
From high school to law school, Ms. Segal held a string of jobs ranging from scooping ice cream one summer (at age 15) in her hometown to selling shoes, clothing and later high-end artworks in Chicago’s River North. She has worked twice at banks, once in a photographic collections role and later in a corporate finance department.
Ms. Segal has a unique and compassionate awareness of her client’s needs, honed by the diverse experiences above as well as yoga training and practice. She welcomes all sorts of clients but has a special affinity for those who are excited about their lives and livelihoods, whether they are analytical, left-brained thinkers or creative professionals.
Ms. Segal is admitted to practice in Connecticut and New York. She is fluent in English and Spanish and knows just enough German and French to wish wistfully that another trip abroad was just over the horizon….
